Gongyuan Cao

Graduate student in Evolutionary Biology, natural photographer, bird watcher, flower hunter.

My research interest is primarily in how biodiversity is formed from the species level to the gene level. My current thesis projects study 1) how protein could gain new function after being freed from selection pressure after duplication, 2) how the change of mating system affects the behaviour of transposable elements, and 3) how genomic species boundaries could be maintained with the presence of gene flow. Please click the Research tab for details.

I teach for but one goal: to share the joy. Biology, especially Evolutionary Biology, has great potential in terms of joy. This joy could be found under the microscopes, on the flower pedals, and even within the numbers in assignments. I endeavour to convey this joy to my students.
